ONE SCHOOL + ONE VILLAGE = LIMITLESS POSSIBILITIES
Building a school in a remote village in Zambia is vitally important to the school children, but it also will have a huge impact on the community.
Welcome to Twalumba School
Located in the Southern Province of Zambia, Twalumba School will serve children who, by the age of nine may not have yet been able to attend school. Through local initiatives, mud and twig structures with tent roofs have been built to provide rudimentary spaces to learn. Now they are reaching out for support to build appropriate buildings, needed infrastucture.
The Project: Details and Priorities
Twalumba School: Building Futures Together! Join our mission to enable possibilities in one village in Zambia.
The following projects are listed in order of priority.
1. Borehole for Water
Water: for school and for community
A borehole and water tank hold immense value for a school in rural Zambia. These resources provide a reliable and clean water supply, which is crucial for maintaining hygiene and health among students and staff. Access to clean water reduces the spread of waterborne diseases, improving overall student attendance and performance. Additionally, it supports the implementation of school feeding programs, and community gardens enhancing nutrition, learning outcomes and even economic growth. The presence of a borehole and water tank also reduces the time students, especially girls, spend collecting water, allowing them to focus more on their education. Overall, these resources play a critical role in creating a conducive learning environment and fostering community development.
Cost estimate: Zambian Kwacha: 202,000
Canadian Dollar: $10,524
2. Toilets
Time to get very real here. To date, the children have run into the bushes to do their thing. Building an ablution block promotes health by reducing the spread of waterborne diseases and improving hygiene practices among young learners which in turn leads to higher attendance rates and better academic performance.
Cost estimate: Zambian Kwacha:
Two Basic Teacher’s houses
3. As might be expected, there is a terrible shortage of teachers for the rural areas of Zambia. In order to provide education for the rural community it is of paramount importance that teachers are paid a suitable ‘allowance’ and provided with adequate living accomodations. Without housing, it is impossible to maintain educators for the school.
4. Salaries, school uniforms and feeding program
“Streams of Love”: A charitable organization spearheaded by two exceptional women of Zambia
Meet the inspiring Zambian women who have committed themselves to the future of this community. With limited resources but limitless capacity to believe it was possible, they have already accomplished great things in the village of Mungande.
Gladys Kristafor
Co-Chair: Streams of Love
Charitable Organization
I know what it is to not have the basics in life. Having ideas and passions but having no opportunities. I know what it is to be looked at as a 2nd class citizen, because of circumstances and financial deficits. It was not easy growing up in a broken home.
Having qualified for university, but not being able to afford it. Thankfully, I managed to sponsor myself slowly, right up to Master of Science level later in life. I cannot under estimate the value of education!
So I have come to learn that one needs emotional, social and economic freedom to be able to make positive impacts within ones self and in the society.
I therefore have a deep passion to help persons realize their potential and to negotiate and offer in whatever way possible opportunities to the underprivileged or needy, for a better tomorrow.
I believe the foundation is so very important, and children deserve to be nurtured with love and support in every way possible.
I have served in charitable organizations, sat on various boards, pastored a church for 3 years, volunteered with NGO’s, worked for government and feel I can now offer credible support in supporting children in education and social services. It takes compassion, it takes love, it takes dedication and commitment! So thank you to all who will come on board!!!
Sincerely, Gladys Kristafor
